Social and emotional learning
We see many students having high stress level and get involved in negative behaviors as they are unable to tackle the life situations properly. In this case, it becomes essential to develop social relationships, manage emotions and improve attitude from the young age in order to lead a happy, effective and healthy life. The learning technique that helps to gain social and emotional skills that are needed for a better life is SEL.
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is a way which enables the students to learn life skills, mental skills and maintain social relationships. This is an effective process to be followed in schools as it makes learning engaging, challenging and meaningful. This kind of learning is suitable for the school students starting from pre-school to 12th standard.
Self-awareness, self-management, self-assessment, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making etc.., are the key competencies of SEL. It helps to recognize and manage one’s own emotions and others, have empathy for others, control impulses, communicate clearly and assertively, maintain cooperative relationships, make responsible decisions and solve problems effectively.
Why it has to be taught in schools?
SEL helps in increasing academic success, lowering stress levels, preventing negative behaviors of students, improving their soft skills, promoting positive relationships and attitudes and motivate them to achieve things by co-operating with others. When students are taught about these skills, they will be able to respond and recognize emotions, think rightly in challenging situations, communicate effectively and get rid of frustrations.
Social and emotional learning is not only limited to schools, nowadays it has to be implemented in colleges, workplaces etc.., Parents also have a big role in developing their children’s social and emotional skills. As a parent, you have to learn about SEL, try to imply in your life, get involved with them, allow them to share their feelings, guide them and appreciate them.
When SEL is taught effectively then students will be able to handle their struggled life smoothly.

Plant trees to save future
We might have heard about the importance of planting trees from our childhood but still many of us doesn't value trees. People need trees for parking their vehicles, hiding themselves from the hottest sun and for satisfying their needs but are not ready to grow trees. Everyone should keep in mind that we cannot reap the benefits without sowing.
Planting a tree is a symbol of a looking-forward kind of action; looking forward, yet not too distantly said World-famous forester, Richard St. Barbe Baker (The man of the trees). This simply means if we plant trees now you are saving your future generation. It's a kind of social responsibility one can take in hand to save yourself, the nature and environment.
Trees are nature's gift for human beings. It provides oxygen, food, shelter, medicines, wood & urban homes for wildlife, cleans air, purifies water, removes chemicals from soil, reduces energy costs and makes our environment beautiful. You can obtain social, communal, environmental and economic benefits from the trees. It prevents soil erosion, floods, drought and global warming.
If you are planting trees, it means you are investing for a sustainable and a better future. Plants are renewable, biodegradable and recyclable. Do you know that millions of trees in the world are accidentally planted by squirrels? They hide the nuts and forget the hiding place. It does a good thing unknowingly but we have to understand the real value and plant trees both for our benefit and others.
Wherever you are or wherever you work, you can spread out the necessity of planting trees in person, through social networks and other means. Many of us use of the social platforms to share many things but sharing the significance of tree planting will be a great social work you can do from being at your place. Every individual must take self responsibility towards this move to save the future.
Create awareness about the importance of planting trees among the public mainly among the students as they are future generation. Schools can also take steps to add a class based on environmental awareness and encourage students to plant trees in their home and school. Start planting trees around your surroundings and make your environment pleasant for you and your future generation.
